Design of a field ionization/field desorption/electron impact ion source and its performance on a modified AEI MS9 mass spectrometer

Description
A combined field ionization/field desorption/electron impact (FI/FD/EI) ion source has been built for use on an AEI MS9 mass spectrometer which utilises a novel micromanipulator for emitter alignment. Switching between the FI/FD and EI modes is simple and fast and the ion source can be rapidly interchanged with existing EI and chemical ionization (CI) sources. (Auth.)
