Principles and applications of heterogeneous isotopic and non-isotopic ion exchange on the surface of ionic crystals

Ionic crystals which are in contact with an electrolytic solution exchange isotopic and non-isotopic ions on their surfaces. These processes are treated quantitatively and measured as a function of time. In general, two different processes are observed: exchange with the surface ions, and recrystallization of the ionic crystals in the solution. During ion exchange, recrystallization is only observed if mixed crystals are formed. The rate of the ion exchange on the surface is determined by the surface reaction, not by diffusion in the solution. The following systems are discussed as examples of isotopic and non-isotopic ion exchange reactions: Sr90++/SrSO4, Sr90++/CaSO4·2H2O, Sr90++/BaSO4. These investigations are important for the separation of carrier-free nuclides from aqueous solutions. One practical application is the separation of Sr90 on ''barium sulphate columns''. (author)
Abstract (French)
Les cristaux ioniques qui se trouvent en contact avec une solution electrolytique echangent a leur surface des ions de nature isotopique et non isotopique. Ces phenomenes sont etudies du point de vue quantitatif et mesures en fonction du temps. En regle generale, on observe deux phenomenes: echange avec les ions de la surface et recristallisation des cristaux ioniques dans la solution. Durant l'echange d'ions, ce phenomene de recristallisation n'est observe que s'il se forme des cristaux mixtes. La vitesse de l'echange ionique a la surface est en general determinee par la reaction qui se produit en surface et non par la diffusion dans la solution. Pour montrer les reactions d'echange d'ions isotopiques et non isotopiques, les auteurs du memoire examinent, a titre d'exemple, les systemes suivants: Sr90++/SrSO4, Sr90++/CaSO4·2H2O, Sr90++/BaSO4. Ces etudes revetent une certaine importance pour la separation de nuclides sans entraineur dans des solutions aqueuses. En los cristales ionicos puestos en contacto con una solucion electrolitica, se produce un intercambio superficial de iones isotopicos y no isotopicos. El autor estudia los aspectos cuantitativos de estos procesos y los evalua en funcion del tiempo. En general, se observan dos procesos: intercambio con los iones de la superficie, y recristalizacion de los cristales ionicos de la solucion. Durante el intercambio ionico solo se produce una recristalizacion cuando se forman cristales mixtos. La velocidad del intercambio ionico en la superficie es funcion de la reaccion superficial, pero no de la difusion en la solucion. Como ejemplo de reacciones de intercambio de iones isotopicos y no isotopicos, el autor estudia los siguientes sistemas: 90Sr++/SrSO4, 90Sr++/CaSO4 · 2H2O y 90Sr++/BaSO4. Estas investigaciones revisten importancia para la separacion de nuclidos libres de portador en soluciones acuosas. Na poverkhnosti ionnykh kristallov v rastvore ehlektrolita proiskhodit obmen izotopnykh i neizotopnykh ionov. EHti protsessy obmena opredelyayutsya kolichestvenno i v zavisimosti ot vremeni. Kak pravilo, nablyudayut dva protsessa: ionnyj obmen na poverkhnosti i rekristalli- zatsiyu ionnykh kristallov v rastvore. Pri ionnom obmene rekristallizatsiya nablyudaetsya tol'ko v tom sluchae, esli obrazuyutsya smeshannye kristally. Skorost' ionnogo obmena na poverkhnosti, kak pravilo, opredelyaetsya po poverkhnostnoj reaktsii, a ne po diffuzii v rastvore. V kachestve primera takikh reaktsij izotopnogo i ne izotopnogo ionnogo obmena rassmatrivayutsya sleduyushchie sistemy: 90Sr++/SrSO4, 90Sr++/CaSO4·2H2O, 90Sr++/BaSO4. EHti issledovaniya imeyut znachenie dlya izvlecheniya iz vodnykh rastvorov izotopov bez nositelya.
