Preliminary results on polyethylene-sealed SSNTD radon dosemeter

  • 1. Malaya Univ., Kuala Lampur (Malaysia). Dept. of Physics

Description

Bare plastic film solid state nuclear track detectors (SSNDTD) have been widely used for indoor radon measurement. However, dust tends to collect on the film after long exposure. In this study, the SSNTD films were sealed in polyethylene bags. The bags were used not just to block out the dust from the film but also to block out water vapour in a region of high humidity. Measurements of radon were made in various rooms in the Physics Building at the University of Malaya. The ratio of measurements obtained using CR 39 and LR 115 detector films should be constant. However, the results show that the ratios may vary from 5 to 15 with 3 out of 7 readings having ratio between 8 and 9. Further measurements are still being carried out for a more comprehensive study.
