On possibility to study pion polarizability in radiative scattering on nuclei at high energies

Description

The possibility to study low-energy characteristics of the Compton effect on pions in the reactions of pion radiative scattering at high energies on the nuclear Coulomb field is shown. The numerical calculations for pions at the 40 GeV/c initial momentum are performed by the Monte Carlo method. The results of calculations are given in the graphical form. The differential cross section d2σ/dtdω is integrated over the photon energy from ω=0.5 epsilon to 0.9 epsilon. The main contribution (approximately 97.5%) into the cross section in the t<=2x10-4 (GeV/c)2 transfer range is given by the Compton effect on a π-meson. The contribution of the term proportional to polarizability is negative and it does not depend on t and is approximately 6% of the process cross section. The strong interactions in the range of transferred momenta of t<=2x10-4(GeV/c)2 are relatively suppressed and are equal to approximately 2.5% of the cross section. At t<=2x10-4-4(GeV/c)2 the integral cross section is approximately 0.5x10-30 cm2
