Even if the extra dimensions are stable today, it is an exciting idea that at an earlier cosmological time they may have been dynamically important. The major problem that arises is that somehow the extra dimensions must stop evolving, and settle into a stable, static configuration. In this simple model, this allows quantitative estimates of the consequences of such an unusual period in the early history of the Universe
