Optimization of a heavy ion driver for controlled fusion
Description
The charge exchange method of ion accumulation for the purpose of heavy ion fusion is considered. The ion accumulation in the charge exchange method occUrs at the minimum charge (+1), and the acceleration at a sufficiently high ion charge, which leads to reduction of the cost of the whole facility. Total cost of the heavy ion driver is formed of the cost of the linear accelerator and that of the system of storage rings. It is shown that some heavy ion driver parameters for controlled fusion are determined only with account for economic considerations. In particular the substantiation for the choise of the ion charge under acceleration in the charge exchange method requires economic ratios participation
