MR imaging characteristics of hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia

Description

Hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is a relatively uncommon benign liver tumor whose prevalence may be as high as 3% of the adult population. This paper examines the MR imaging characteristics of FNH. A retrospective review of patients with FNH revealed 28 patients with a total of 33 individual lesions. Pathologic proof was based on tissue histology in 24, nuclear scintigraphy in three, and follow-up imaging in six lesions. MR imaging was performed at 0.6 T with heavily T1-weighted (SE275/14) and triple-echo T2- weighted (SE 2350/60/120/180) pulse sequences in 12 patients, and at 1.5 T with heavily T1-weighted (SE 500/15; GE 100/5/80 degrees) and double-echo T2-weighted (SE 2500/15, 90) pulse sequences in 16 patients
