Status and problems of atomic energy in Ukraine

It is noted that in a number of countries nuclear power posses dominating position, it is generating more than half of essential energy. The Ukraine is belonging to such countries. Ukraine is among eight top by electric energy generation. At present in Ukraine on 4 NPPs 13 WWER-1000 and 2 WWER-440 nuclear facilities are operating with total nuclear capacity 13.835 MW. In Ukraine there is a wide range of diverse materials and the most precise technologies of treatment, production, and welding. Ukraine possesses rich resources for principal nuclear components production (fuel cassettes, control system elements, reactors protection devices, etc,). In Ukraine there are a real possibilities for own nuclear fuel cycle creation. However at existing fleet of reactor facilities the most effective way is a strengthening of cooperation with Russia and Kazakhstan in generation of nuclear fuel for Ukrainian NPPs. Special emphasis is paying to research developments for a new safe nuclear energy sources. A wide-scale researches are carrying out on: - reactors with chain reaction of nuclei fission control with help of interior neutron source; - high-temperature helium reactors, including hydrogen production; fast liquid-salt reactors; fast reactor, operation in wave modes of nuclear combustion (Feoktistov reactor); - energy fusion facilities. In the paper directions directed both increase of existing reactors safe operation and rise of Ukrainian NPPs cost-effectiveness are given
