CRDM penetration cracks: how the French have met the challenge
Description
When cracks first appeared in control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) penetrations in the upper vessel heads of France's PWRs, Framatome was presented with a major challenge. To meet it, the company devised a comprehensive approach, which involved establishing a programme of inspection, local repair and replacement of affected components, and developed the dedicated methods and tools needed to accomplish it.
