Direction of easy magnetization in TmCo5 and ErCosub(5.6)
Description
Neutron-diffraction studies on TmCo5 and ErCosub(5.6) show that these compounds are ferrimagnetic with magnetic moments 6.8 μsub(B) and 8.6 μsub(B) for Tm and Er respespectively. The cobalt moment is coupled antiparallel with the rare-earth moment and is equal to 1.5 μsub(B). The magnetic moments are parallel to the c axis for both compounds below their Curie temperatures. Crystal-field calculations on rare-earth ions give the c axis of the crystals as the easy-magnetization direction. (author)
