U.S. import dependence: a sufficient guide to energy security policy?

Description

With market-efficient incentives and other oil-conservation measures largely stifled, US. Administration's attention has shifted to other means of addressing the vulnerability to internationally instigated oil shocks. The problem, however, is that the economic vulnerability is different from energy security. The latter has a broad and significant geopolitical dimension and poses a long-term challenge for which is necessary to work and insist on worldwide political relationships

Poiche gli incentivi all'efficienza e altre misure di contenimento dei consumi di petrolio risultano impraticabili, l'Amministrazione statunitense si e orientata verso altri strumenti per afffrontare la vulnerabilita agli shock petroliferi internazionali. Il problema, pero, e che la vulnerabilita economica va distinta dalla sicurezza energetica: che ha una ampia e significativa dimensione geopolitica e che pone una sfida di lungo termine per la quale occorre lavorare e insistere sulle relazioni politiche internazionali
