Description
Process control systems are assembled from several constructional components and are therefore prove to accidents caused by failures of these components. Their reliability can be improved by parallel-redundant information processing with subsequent camparing of results. It is shown that the safety of these n-v-n systems increases with the redundance of n while their reliability decreases due to the higher failure rate of the components. A possible solution is offered by modularization of the systems and the use of multiple decision principles. The use of adaptive multiple decision systems may further increase reliability. With these systems, defective systems can be recognized before a shutdown of the overall system is necessary. Repair is thus on effective means of improving reliability. Repairable adaptive systems with low redundance offer a satisfactory compromise with regard to safety, reliability and efficiency. (ORU/AK)
Abstract (German)
(ORU)Additional details
