Fuel performance and fuel utilization at RAPS - 3 and 4

  • 1. TSS, Rajasthan Atomic Power Station -3 and 4 Kota (India)

Description

Rajasthan Atomic Power Station-3 and 4 (RAPS - 3 and 4) is 220 MWe Indian Standard Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (ISPHWR) using 19 elements circular geometry fuel bundle. These fuel bundles are being manufactured by Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC), Hyderabad. These fuel bundles are used at RAPS-3 and 4 reactors to produce energy through nuclear fission. Nuclear fission also produces very high radiation emitting isotopes as well as gaseous fission products. These fission products are require to be retained with in the fuel boundary so that core contamination as well as activity release remains within the acceptable limits. Therefore nuclear fuel production requires very high standards of quality control at NFC. This paper describes the fuel performance and fuel utilization at RAPS-3 and 4
