Production of heavy stripping fragments in interactions of alpha particles with momentum 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon with tantalum and propane

  • 1. Joint Institute for Nuclear Research

Description

Cross sections for production of 3He, 3H, and 2H stripping fragments in collisions of α particles at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon with tantalum and propane nuclei have been determined. The negative-particle and total charged-particle multiplicities in events having such fragments have also been determined. The dependence of the probability for production of 3He, 3H, and 2H stripping fragments on the atomic weight of the target nucleus is in good agreement with the multiple-scattering model
