Nuclear reaction analysis for the determination of oxygen and carbon in the surface layers of boron

Description
A surface analytical method has been developed for the determination of light elements (oxygen and carbon) in light element (boron) matrices. Because of the high yield of the (d,p/,/d,α/, and/p,α) reactions a coincidence detection system is needed, for the carbon determination with (d,p) reaction a telesope detection system was used. Also the proton backscattering was used in the telescope detection system. Using these two methods, 2.3μm thick surfaces were determined. The results confirm the data obtained with activation analysis or mass spectrometry. The data processing is also described. (G.Gy.)
