The development of liquid xenon technique in CMD-group
- 1. Inst. of Nuclear Physics, Novosibirsk (USSR)
Description
In this paper the detector CMD-3 is proposed for experiments at the φ -factory. The electromagnetic calorimeter at this detector consists of the two parts - liquid xenon (LXe) calorimeter and BGO-calorimeter. Effective thickness of whole calorimeter is equal to 16 Xo, energy resolution is about 4% (Eγ = 100 MeV). The LXe calorimeter will be used for coordinate measurements of photons. The thickness of LXe is equal to 8 Xo, efficiency of coordinate registration is about 90% (eγ-100 MeV), average coordinate resolution is 1.5 mm. It will be possible to achieve π/μ and π/e separation through the stopping of pions and measurement of dE/dX (with σ = 4%) for momenta of π, μ, e in the area 150-250 MeV/c with help of the LXe calorimeter. There is a possibility to organize a secondary trigger with the time resolution about 5 ns. A possible structure of electrodes for LXe calorimeter is shown. The high voltage electrodes are mounted in towers and information about deposited energy read out from them. The low integration time is required to remove an influence of geometrical factor for measurements of energy. The strip electrodes collecting the full ionization are used for the coordinate measurements
