Investigation of parameters critical to muon-catalyzed fusion. Annual performance report, 1985-1986
Description
Muon catalysis cycling rates have been shown to increase rapidly with increasing deuterium-tritium gas temperatures and densities. Furthermore, muon-capture losses decrease sharply as the fluid density is raised. As a result of these effects, we have been able to achieve muon-catalyzed fusion yields of over 170 fusions/muon (average). The fusion energy thereby released, 3 GeV/muon, significantly exceeds theoretical expectations and higher yields are expected. Therefore, we are exploring the limits of muon-catalyzed fusion, to provide answers to questions regarding energy applications of muon-catalyzed fusion
