The use of gamma measurements to assess half-life of radiopharmaceuticals

Description

Fluorine-18 is used in nuclear medicine to obtain images. Estimating half-life accurately is extremely important for radionuclide quality control and patient protection. The half-live of Fluoride-18 was determined by independent measurements, using the gamma spectrometry method with a high purity germanium detector, and an ionization chamber. For this, half-life values were estimated at 109.71± 0.01 min, and for that 109.74 ± 0.21 min. These values are analogous to those already published, but with lower uncertainties. (author)
