The period safety trip during the start-up of atomic reactors (1964)

Description

The rapid start-up of atomic reactors is compatible with safety considerations only if the following criteria are observed: a high rate of energy liberation if the reactivity is ≤0, a low rate of energy liberation if the reactivity is ≥0. The study shows that the conventional period safety trip: logarithmic and difference amplifier does not make it possible to conform to these criteria, because of the electronic transient on the one hand and because of the neutronic transient on the other. Fast starting-up programmes connected with other measurements are analysed, as well as other electronic devices designed to limit rapid variations of the power. (author)

Abstract (French)

Le demarrage rapide des piles atomiques n'est compatible avec la securite que si les criteres suivants suivants sont satisfaits: vitesse de liberation de reactivite grande, si reactivite ≤0, vitesse de liberation de reactivite faible si ≥0. L'etude montre que la securite periode classique : amplificateur logarithmique et differentiateur ne permet pas de satisfaire a ces criteres, d'une part a cause du transitoire electronique, et d'autre part a cause du transitoire neutronique. Aussi des programmations rapides de demarrage liees a d'autres mesures sont analysees, ainsi que d'autres dispositifs electroniques destines a limiter les evolutions de puissance. (auteur)
