Dielectric constant dependence of formation constants: complexation of dioxovanadium(V) with methionine

Description
The reaction of dioxovanadium(V) with methionine was studied by spectrophotometric titration in mixed solvent systems of methanol + water and dioxane + water at 25 Deg C and constant ionic strength 0.15 mol dm-3 NaClO4 in the pH range 1.5 - 8, with high ligand of metal ratios. Two mononuclear complexes ML and ML2 have been characterized for the ligands. The stability constants of the complexes formed and their stoichiometry are given and interpreted. Linear relationships are observed when log β is plotted versus 1/D, where β and D represent formation and dielectric constants, respectively. The results are discussed in terms of the effect of solvent protonation and complexation
Abstract (Russian)
Методом спектрофотометрического титрования изучена реакция иона диоксованадия(V) с метионином (L) в системах смешанных растворителей метанол + вода и диоксан + вода при 25 град С и постоянной ионной силе 0.15 мол/л NaClO4, в интервале рН 1.5 - 8 и при больших соотношениях лиганд:металл. Установлено, что в системе образуется два типа моноядерных комплексов ML и ML2, для которых определены константы устойчивости и стехиометрия. Обнаружена линейная зависимость между величинами log β и 1/D, где β представляет собой константу образования, а D - диэлектрическую постоянную.
