Description
Objective: To review the preliminary clinical application of 18F-FDG PET in the field of oncology. Methods: 18F-FDG PET was performed in total 16 cases. All patients received intravenous administration of 18F-FDG 370∼555 MBq, followed by a 40 minutes uptake phase, and subsequent PET scanning. The results of 18F-FDG PET were compared with CT, MRI and/or pathology. Results: In 15 cases of neoplasm, FDG uptake increased significantly for all lesions. And 18F-FDG PET findings were consistent with or further confirmed the CT or MRI diagnosis in 11(73%) and 4(27%) cases. In one case mistaken for intracranial metastasis based on CT and MRI, correct diagnosis of infarction was made after glucose metabolism study with PET and confirmed after clinical treatment and follow-up. Conclusions: Preliminary clinical application of 18F-FDG PET has demonstrated its significant advantages in evaluating malignant diseases
