Design and construction of No.2 Unit of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Power Station

Description
The Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Power Station's No.2 Unit (1,100 MWe, BWR-5) known as K-2, of The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. was put into commercial operation last September, with Toshiba as the main contractor for its construction. The No. 2 Unit incorporates various design features and cost improvements, achieved through Toshiba's original technological developments and long accumulation of experience in the design, construction and maintenance of BWR plants. A description is given here of the design and construction features of K-2, which is considered to represent the maturation of BWR plants in Japan. (author)
