Description
The primary processes of radiation chemical reduction of heptylviologen bromide in a matrix of polyvinyl alcohol were investigated by the method of pulse radiolysis. It was shown that simultaneously with the biologen radical cations, shortlived OH adducts (in the absorption spectrum a maximum at λ /SUB max/ = 570 nm) and protonated forms (λ /SUB max/ = 595 nm) are produced under the action of radiation. Twostep formation of viologen radical cations as a result of the interaction of heptylviologen bromide with the free electrons of the medium and with radicals formed under the action of ionizing radiation on the polymer was detected. The effective rate constant of the reaction of viologen at the second step was (1.3 + or 0.2).102 dm3/(mole x sec)
