Influence of the chain-transfer reactions on the emulsion post-polymerization process

Description
A probability of free radical exit from latex particle in the course of chain transfer reaction is defined by properties of the radical itself. In the case of emulsive post-polymerization of styrene in the presence of H-dodecylmercantane the value α for CCL3 is about 3x10-2, for radical C12H25 it is close to zero and for the radical generated under transfer to the monomer it is approximately 10-2. The effect of transfer to the monomer on the emulsive post-polymerization is discussed: it is responsible for the high degree of monomer conversion
