Description

The source projector described is roughly a sphere 1.10m in diameter with an octogonal steel body and weighs about a metric ton. This device is designed for the purposes: to provide a biological shielding for the storage of 16 source-holders containing a total amount of 25μg of californium-252 and to insure the simultaneous ejection of up to 6 source-holders through the applicators. The availability of the californium-252 source-projector by the end of this year will provide major assistance in the clinical evaluation program of neutron plesiocurietherapy by facilitating the implantation of source-assemblies and reducing the radiation dose to hospital staff

Abstract (French)

Le projecteur de source decrit represente grossierement une sphere de 1,10m de diametre avec un corps octogonal en acier et pese environ 1 tonne. Cet appareil a ete concu dans un double but: fournir une protection biologique pour le stockage de 16 porte-sources contenant au total 25μg de californium-252 et assurer l'ejection de 6 porte-sources a travers l'applicateur. Ce projecteur de source a base de 252Cf fournira une aide efficace en plesiocurietherapie en facilitant l'implantation des sources et en reduisant la dose de rayonnement au personnel medical
