A comparison of chromosomal and micronuclear methods for radiation accident dosimetry

  • 1. National Radiological Protection Board, Chilton (UK)

Description

It is possible that time and cost disadvantages of the chromosome aberration technique of biological dosimetry might in some cases be overcome by the use of the cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus assay. A comparison between the two techniques has been made in the hypothetical eventuality of a radiation accident involving either just one or a large number of casualties. With current methods of analysis, except in the most extreme case involving very large numbers of casualties, the micronucleus assay confers no real logistical advantage. (author)
