Measurement of the nuclear magnetic moment of 71As and 72As by NMR/ON

Description
The nuclei 71As and 72As provide a good situation for the study of the magnetic moments of odd nucleons in single particle shell-model ground states. The isotope 71As contains a single unpaired fsub(5/2) proton. Arsenic 72 contains an additional neutron which enters the gsub(9/2) neutron shell. By measuring the magnetic moments of both isotopes it is possible to extract effective g-factors for both the proton fsub(5/2) and neutron gsub(9/2) states. Measurement of the magnetic resonance frequency in the hyperfine field of arsenic impurities in iron by NMR/ON allows the magnetic moments to be determined with high precision. The 26 h 72As and the 65 h 71As isotopes were prepared by the 72Ge(d,2n)72As and 70Ge(d,n)71As reactions at a deuteron energy of 20 MeV. (Auth.)
