Experimental investigation on downcomer boiling with the ATLAS facility

Description

A thermal-hydraulic integral effect test facility, ATLAS (Advanced Thermal-hydraulic Test Loop for Accident Simulation), has been utilized by Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERl) in order to establish an integral database for verification of the APR1400 designs and resolution of safety issues of the APR1400. Integral effect tests for investigation on downcomer boiling during the late reflood phase of the large break loss of coolant accident (LBLOCA) have been performed. It was found that the downcomer boiling does occur but its effects are not so significant as much as predicted by the safety analysis code, MARS3.1
