Evaluation of an accidental intake of iodine 131 dosimetric
Description
A nuclear medicine assistant in took accidentally I-131 in a similar quantity to that given for hyperthyroidism treatment (of an order of 10 mCi), not being possible to precise neither the time nor the circumstances of the intake. The case was followed-up by direct charge measures on the thyroid and the whole body and by urinalysis. Dose estimation in thyroid was made on the basis of direct measures on the gland, assuming two extreme supposed dates of intake. The effective period of thyroid for the case was evaluate, resulting in a gradient for the first days and other more prominent for the following ones. Both gradients are bigger than those from standard models. A metabolic model, different from that proposed by ICRP 54 publication for the description of iodine metabolism in the reference man, is proposed. This metabolic models fits to this particular case
