The Development Project on Plutonium Utilization for Thermal Reactors in Japan

Description

Nuclear power generating capacity in Japan (mainly based on light water moderated concepts) is projected to be 6 000 MWe in 1975 and 30 - 40 000 MWe in 1985. This poses two main problems: (a) Fuel requirement will be 13 000 tonnes of U3O8 by 1975 (cumulative). (b) Cumulative Pu production will be 3 tonnes by 1975 and 15 tonnes by 1980.
