Description
Experimental information about triaxial and soft shapes for the Os nuclei has been presented. It comprises the observation of low-lying and staggering γ bands, signature splitting in bands involving i13/2 quasi neutrons, the crossing of the positive-parity yrast band by a negative-parity sequence and high-spin K isomers with extremly small K hindrance factors. Considering all the evidence it may be concluded that the Os nuclei have γ deformations between γ ∼ -100 and ∼ -200 and that they are γ soft. 43 refs., 14 figs. (author)
