Energy policy. International developments and their consequences for the Federal Republic of Germany
Description
The energy-political course of the Federal Republic of Germany is largely determined by the Rheinisch-Westfaelisches Elektrizitaetswerk AG. It produces the largest part of nuclear power in the country, is in possession of almost all the brown-coal deposits, and holds important shares of the primary energy sources black coal, natural gas, and oil. So the revision of West-German energy policy depends decisively on whether a strategy can be conceived for diverting the power of this energy giant to other interests. (DG)

Der energiepolitische Kurs der Bundesrepublik Deutschland wird weitgehend vom RWE bestimmt. Es produziert den meisten Atomstrom im Land, verfuegt ueber fast die gesamten Braunkohlevorkommen und haelt bei den Primaerenergietraegern Steinkohle, Erdgas und Oel wichtige Beteiligungen. Fuer die Umgestaltung der westdeutschen Energiepolitik ist also entscheidend, ob es gelingt, eine Strategie zu entfalten, mit der die Macht dieses Energieriesen auf andere Interessen umgelenkt werden kann.
