Association processes of aliphatic alcohols in CCl4

  • 1. Uniwersytet Slaski, Katowice (Poland). Inst. Fizyki

Description

Association processes in wide ranges of temperature for solutions of aliphatic alcohols in CCL4, by means of NMR high resolution spectroscopy, are investigated. Mecke-Kempter's and Saunders-Hyne's models with corrected entropy, used for interpretation of experimental results, convince us that the first of those models is more realistic. This model leads to the hydrogen bond enthalpy of all investigated alcohols equal to -6.0 kcal/mole. There are also some suggestions that main differences of equilibrium constants for the aliphatic alcohols soluted in nonpolar solvents are due to different volume and shape of molecules for those solvents.
