Radiation damages in molybdenum, irradiated with protons and α-particles

Description

Regularities of radiation damage development in molybdenum along the proton and α-particle path with the initial energy of 30 and 50 MeV in a wide dose interval are investigated using transmitting electron microscopy method. Comparative investigation into defect formation in molybdenum under irradiation with protons and α-particles has shown, that the defect mass survival degree in the case of irradiation with alpha-particles is higher. This effect is explained by a harder spectrum of primarily knocked-on atoms (PKOA) under irradiation with alpha-particles and by a possible stabilization of vacancy masses by helium atoms, accumulating along the path
