On phase composition of cerium subgroup lanthanide sulfides synthesized in melts of alkali metal rhodanides
Description
Chemical analysis for rare earth ions, sulfide sulfur and common sulfur enabled to established that rare earth polysulfides of the generic formula Lnsub(4)Ssub(7)(LnSsub(17.)) rather than Ln2S3 sesquisulphides, as it had been assumed before, are formed during sulfidization of light rare earth salts with melts of alkali metal rhodanides. Formula of rare earth polysulfides was supported by thermal gravimetric analysis of samples in the air. Compounds were identified by X-ray diffraction analysis. Infrared absorption spectra of synthesized products are given
