Moessbauer effect study of polymetallic nodules from Indian Ocean bed
Description
Polymetallic nodules from a depth of about 4 km in the central part of the Indian Ocean were studied by Moessbauer measurements. The quadrupole splittings and isomer shifts of the spectra have shown that the oxidation state of iron is Fe3+ in these nodules and the chemical form is likely to be iron oxide hydroxide FeOOH
