Problems of heat transfer, pressure loss and flow stability in highly thermally stressed steam generator tubes

Description

Modern power stations - conventional steam power plants as well as nuclear power stations - are characterized by the advance of the flow principle and by an increase in block sizes up to an electric power of more than 1,000 MW. For physical and economical reasons, this led to an intensified heat flow which in the case of nuclear power stations is also due to the properties of the heating medium - i.e. pressurized water, high-pressure gas, or liquid metal-, while the numerical increase in oil heatings in conventional power plants entrailed high peak loads. These increased heat flows, which may reach about 1,000 kW/m2 in the steam generators of nuclear power stations, may under certain conditions exceed the critical thermal load, i.e. the threshold of film boiling or evaporation. The hydraulic stability of the two-phase flow, for whose calculation requires data on the two-phase pressure drop are required, plays an important role here. Some knowledge on the two-phase pressure drop is also necessary for an exact design of the steam generator tubes with vaporization heat flow. (orig./AK)

Abstract (German)

(orig./TK)
