Spin-dependent deep inelastic positron scattering from 3He with HERMES

  • 1. Massachusetts Inst. of Technol., Cambridge, MA (United States). Lab. for Nucl. Sci.

Description

In the HERMES experiment at HERA a polarised 3He target was used as an effective neutron target during the successful commissioning year 1995. The use of novel beam and target technologies and a large acceptance spectrometer allowed a measurement of spin-dependent quantities that is complementary to other experiments. An overview of the detector and target is given, followed by the preliminary analysis for the inclusive data. The preliminary result for Γ1n is -0.032±0.013 (stat)±0.017(syst) at Q2=3 GeV2. (orig.)
