Description

In 1985 the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD set up the International Cooperative Programme for the Exchange of Scientific and Technical Information Concerning Nuclear Installation Decommissioning Projects. Currently, there are 35 projects in the Programme from 12 participating countries. The seven broad areas on which effort is focused are: assessment of activity inventories; cutting techniques; remote operation; decontamination; melting; radioactive waste management; health and safety. Some of the outcomes from these areas are summarised. The Technical Advisory Group of the Programme has set up a number of Task Groups for specific studies. Work done by these groups on decommissioning costs, decontamination, recycling and reuse, and release measurements is described. The future emphasis of the Programme will be on information dissemination and regulatory issues. (UK)
