Quasi-elastic scattering measurement for 28Si+232Th reaction

Description

The cold-fusion reactions based on lead or bismuth targets and the hot-fusion reactions based on the actinide targets, are successfully used in the synthesis of heavy and super-heavy elements (SHE). In order to study the anticipated transition the reaction 28Si + 232Th has been chosen with a projectile right in the middle between 16O and 48Ca; the chosen target 232Th has similar collective states as 238U. To study the effect of projectile and target excitation on fusion, the barrier distribution (BD) for the 28Si+232Th system forming SHE 260Rf104 is measured. To extract the BD, the technique of quasi-elastic (QE) scattering at large backward angles is utilized
