Description
This paper is focused to the effect of mechanical work and heat treatment on the surface residual stress of TP 316L stainless steel. For the purpose, three different mechanical works of Electrical Discharged Machining (EDM), milling and grinding were conducted to the TP 316L plate specimens. Residual stress and hardness were measured for the specimens. Heat treatment effect to the surface residual stress was also examined. Residual stress was measured by X-ray diffraction method, which showed surface residual stress had much variation due to mechanical work method. Hardness measurement showed hardness had relations only with stress magnitude regardless of compressive or tensile component. Surface residual stress was greatly decreased by heat treatment, however, not removed completely.
