Description
The quark-mass function is calculated from the Dyson-Schwinger equation in an arbitrary gauge. The constraints arising from renormalizability, the Ward identity, and asymptotic freedom are respected. It is shown that there is a critical value of the effective coupling, above which dynamical chiral-symmetry breaking occurs
