Rate constant evaluation for the reaction of H atoms with U(V) upon radiolysis of aqueous acid solutions of uranium ions

  • 1. Institute of Physical Chemistry, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

The literature data on γ-radiolysis of uranium(IV) ions in deaerated perchloric and sulfuric acid solutions were analyzed. It was suggested that peculiarities of the radiolytic process are attributable to an oxidation reaction of uranium(V) with H atoms. Upon uranium(IV) radiolysis, 17 reactions occurring in the solution were considered. The rate constant of the reaction U(V) + H was estimated with the use of known rate constants of elementary reactions as well as U(V) and H2 yields and steady-state U(V) concentrations
