Emission probability and kinetic energy of long range alpha particles from even-even 238-244Pu isotopes

  • 1. School of Pure and Applied Physics, Kannur University, Payyanur (India)

Description

The ternary fission with α particle emission was observed for the first time by Alvarez et al. in 236U isotope. Most common ternary fission process occurs with the emission of long range alpha particle, in which α particle is emitted in a direction perpendicular to the main fission fragments. The long range emission of α particle is possible only if α cluster is formed inside the fissioning nucleus and should gain enough energy to overcome the Coulomb barrier of the scission nucleus
