Description
The importance of the RLE of the elemental dose is exemplified by the Auger effect produced by 125I in DNA of human kidney T-cells in culture. The value of the RLE was determined to be about 11 with the tritium-β-particle within the critical volume being the standard. Yet, on the basis of decay, 125I within DNA proved to be 40 times more effective than the decay of tritium in these cells. Tumour therapy by incorporated radionuclides aims at providing an optimal element dose to the tumour cell nucleus with an optimal value of RLE, with permitting lowest possibly values for both in normal tissue
