Investigation of iodine leaching from cement and bitumen compounds
Description
Results of iodine leaching from cement and bitumen compounds containing 9 and 50 wt. % of the salts Ba(IO3)2, Pb(IO3)2, Cu(IO3)2, PbI2 and Na3H2IO6 have been studied to evaluate the possibility of using cementt and bitumen matrices for conditioning of wastes, containing iodine-129. The process of iodine leaching is of a diffusional character; with a decrease in the leaching coefficient being observed in compounds containing low-soluble metal iodates and iodides. Approximate forecast of stability of the compounds investigated to leaching is made
