The status of nuclear power, with special regard to nuclear process heat
Description
The future problems of the world energy market make new types of energy necessary, in particular as a substitute for natural oil. High-temperature reactors can make an important contribution here. The temperature of 9500C reacted by the Juelich AVR research reactor is a prerequisite for this. The German HTR programme will be continued with the 300 MW THTR. The development programme of the Federal Republic of the moment also promotes a number of coal conversion processes. The most ideal use of HTR reactors might be to produce hydrogen from water with the aid of thermochemical techniques and hybrid techniques. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die zukuenftigen Probleme des Weltenergiemarktes erfordern neue Energien, insbesondere fuer die Substitution des Erdoels. Hochtemperaturreaktoren koennen fuer diesen Zweck einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten. Voraussetzung ist ein Temperaturangebot von etwa 9500C, das im AVR-Reaktor in Juelich seit drei Jahren demonstriert wird. Zur Fortfuehrung des deutschen HTR-Programms wird der 300-MW-THTR gebaut. Im Entwicklungsprogramm der Bundesrepublik Deutschland werden zur Zeit einige Prozesse zur Veredlung von Kohle gefoerdert. Die idealste Anwendung des Hochtemperaturreaktors koennte darin bestehen, dass Wasserstoff aus Wasser mit Hilfe von thermochemischen Verfahren und Hybridverfahren produziert wird.
