A self-amplified spontaneous emission free electron laser, codes and undulator modelling

Description

Laser beam is produced by the high energy electron beam in a self amplified spontaneous emission free electron laser. In this case, the lasing begins the random microbunching on the electron beam. Longitudinal coherence of self amplified spontaneous emission is less than the amplifier case of the radiation while transversely coherence is almost %100 at saturation. In Turkish Accelerator Complex Project, 1-100 nm range of spectrum is planned to cover. This condition is directly restricts the transverse emittance of electron beam. In this study, the undulator material and modelling of self amplified spontaneous emission free electron laser is explained. Three simulation codes-GENESIS, GINGER, and MEDUSA are studied in order to simulate undulator field. Samarium Cobalt is used for planar undulator. Because of the importance of the undulator length to reach full saturation, parameters such as period length, gap, peak magnetic field, K parameter, saturation length, and number of periods for self amplified spontaneous emission of free electron laser are discussed for a Samarium Cobalt undulator. Since the design parameters are based on whole simulations of the system, different codes are searched for optimum undulator length results.
