Dynamic nuclear development in Pacific Asia
Description
The gigantic wave of industrialization in Pacific Asia is based on a reliable supply of electricity whose expansion is being planned long in advance. In this context, nuclear power serves to reduce the dependence on, mostly imported, fossil fuels. Seventy nuclear power plants are in operation, twelve are under construction, and at least another 65 are planned by the year 2020. Also current nuclear research programs have been designed with long term objectives in mind. In times of moratoria and intentions to opt out in Western Europe it is perhaps worthwhile to look beyond the borders of cantons and federal states. The situation of nuclear power worldwide, especially in Pacific Asia, clearly reveals one thing: There is no opting out. (orig.)

Der gigantische Industrialisierungsschub im pazifischen Asien basiert auf einer gesicherten Elektrizitaetsversorgung, deren Ausbau weitblickend vorausgeplant wird. Der Kernenergie kommt dabei die Rolle zu, die Abhaengigkeit von den zumeist importierten fossilen Brennstoffen zu verringern. 70 Kernkraftwerksbloecke sind in Betrieb, 12 im Bau und mindestens 65 weitere bis zum Jahre 2020 geplant. Auch die laufenden Kernforschungsprogramme sind langfristig angelegt. In Zeiten von Moratorien und Ausstieg in Westeuropa lohnt es sich, ueber die Grenzen von Kantonen und Bundeslaendern hinauszublicken. Wird die Situation der Kernenergie weltweit und inbesondere im pazifischen Asien betrachtet, so ist festzustellen: Der Ausstieg findet nicht statt. (orig.)Additional details
