Legal and ecological aspects of decommissioning of nuclear heritage objects (by the example of Techa cascade of reservoirs of the Mayak plant)

  • 1. Nuclear Safety Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

Decommissioning of nuclear heritage objects is the complex of complicated and interrelated legal, scientific and engineering solutions directed to substantiation and ensuring of safety during and after completing the preservation of large-scale nuclear and/or radiation hazardous sources. One of the main problems is that the solutions are often unique, unobvious in advance and, consequently, cause active and not always fruitful discussions concerning their adequacy. (author)
